These are images of the literacy mat that I have created today. I want to help my students consider the language that they are using when they write, particularly in examination questions when they are trying to communicate with another adult about science. 

This is my first attempt and I imagine that I will have to refine what I have produced and how I use it a lot to make the perfect environment for my students to increase their written communication in science. 

Foldables ideas from a session at the ASE conference in Reading in January.

I still haven’t got the best from this method and will have to get to grips using them. But I can see the power.

The main thing to realise is you (or the student) has to match the design of the foldable to the number of key ideas in that topic. The folds can be used to break the ideas down further.

The limit is your imagination!
